Day 7—Wednesday, February 21

Psalm 34:8-10

O taste and see that the LORD is good; happy are those who take refuge in him. O fear the LORD, you his holy ones, for those who fear him have no want. The young lions suffer want and hunger, but those who seek the LORD lack no good thing.

When we take refuge in the Lord, we lack no good thing. Taking refuge in the Lord is no easy act. With how busy and overwhelming life can be, we often do not take refuge in the Lord. It is easy to worry, stress, and be afraid of what is to come. We may feel no guidance from God at these times.

Recently, I have had to think hard about my career and decide what is best for me moving forward. I have been feeling very conflicted and unsure of what to do for months. I have been trying to look for answers in many ways. I was asking others for their opinions on the situation, making detailed pros and cons lists about the different paths I could be led on, and looking for signs and situations in my current job to tell me what to do. Recently I have had many roadblocks pop up on the decisions that I thought were best for me. I felt very angry and upset about the roadblocks messing up my plan. I became very anxious and stressed about what all this could mean and what to do. I started praying about my situation and putting my trust in God for what my plan was. I was so covered in fear and worry that I was not putting my refuge in God. As this went on for a few weeks it finally occurred to me that these roadblocks were God’s way of telling me what to do. This is the path I need to take. I was trying to run away, and I feared what plan was being shown, instead of taking refuge and trusting that God knows the path I need to be on.

God has a plan for each of us no matter what stage of life we are in. We can feel calm and good about this path when we fully trust in God and that this is the plan for us; the plan that will lead us to where we need to go. While it may not be what we want and it may not always feel good, it is God’s plan. We must take refuge in him to lack nothing.

When we are fully putting ourselves with God and fully trusting in him, that is when we are lacking nothing. We allow the worry and the stress to go away and are fulfilled by God’s love for us and the faith we have in him that all will be good.
