Zechariah 8:17

Do not devise evil in your heart against one another, and love no false oath, for all these things I hate, declares the Lord.

In this verse, the Lord shows us a guideline we intend to follow. We must be kind to one another and treat each other with love, not hate. Even to those who we may dislike or feel hurt by, we still should not create hate against them. Following the Lord's guidelines and will for us is not as easy as it may seem. While we all can be kind to one another each day, when we feel hurt or put down, those feelings change. Throughout our daily lives, it may seem easier to be pulled towards fear compared to things that need our confidence and strength.

In our world today, we face so many different viewpoints that may cause discomfort and dislike of others. It can create a fearful feeling that we cannot get along with one another. This is where we need the strength of the Lord to remind us of the amazing role we can play during a time like this. We have the choice to show love and kindness instead of dislike or hate. While others may not show the same to us, we can be role models for them. This verse serves as a reminder of the love that we can bring into the world. Even on difficult days, seeking to bring kindness to a stranger can be the biggest blessing one may ask for.

Dear Lord,

In a time when some of us may feel uncertain or lost, due to hate and discomfort, guide us to continue to love one another. Help us see the good we can create by showing love to others. Keep our hearts patient and fair to those around us. Allow us to create more peace and love.

Amen.
