Evening Prayer Services

“To Hope and Act with Creation”

Thursday, September 19 at 7:00 PM, The Hope of Creation

A Service of Contemplative Prayer for the Care of Creation

Surrounded as we are with constant devastating news about climate chaos, biodiversity loss and the ever-growing mountains of pollution, it is easy to fall into despair. And yet as people of faith, we have hope—the confidence in what we hope for and the assurance of what we do not yet see (Hebrews 11:1). As faith without action dead (James 2:26) – so hope without action is meaningless and, in this service, we acknowledge and lament our sense of despair, cling to our faith and hope, and commit ourselves to act with Creation for the renewal of life.

Thursday, October 17 at 7:00 PM, The Awe of Creation

An Interfaith Observance of Rosh Hashanah with the Chailites

In honor and celebration with our Jewish neighbors, we share in an interfaith observation of Rosh Hashanah. Rosh Hashanah commemorates the creation of the world and marks the beginning of the Days of Awe, a 10-day period of introspection and repentance that culminates in the Yom Kippur festival, known as the Day of Atonement. We celebrate with our Jewish neighbors, and come together in our shared faith of Adonai— our God and our Creator. We are joined by the Chailites, the choir of Temple Emmanuel, and Cantor Amanda Edmundson in musical leadership for this service.

Sunday, November 24 at 7:00 PM, The Feast of Creation

A Service of Thanksgiving for Creation

Our fall evening prayer series culminates in the Feast of Creation. Following a season of repentance for our sinful desecration of the gift and Creation and prayer for its healing, the Feast honors God as Creator and commemorates the great mystery of the creation of the cosmos. We give thanks for this foundational mystery of our Christian faith and join together around the table singing and praying in gratitude for the One who gives life to all creation.
